Darc Reign's Azrael Double Drop: Like a Shadow

Some photographers shoot the figure. Darc Reign scores the movie.

Within 24 hours, the ETS family's preferred cover artist dropped two Azrael posts — and each one carries its own Epic Toy Sound track, written and performed by Darc Reign himself. A Knightfall Azrael stalking an Extreme Sets subway diorama. A DarkestKnight Batman Azrael moving through the shadows. Two posts, two tracks, one dark knight — and a sonic universe being built in real time.

Post one: "A different kind of vengeance"

It started October 6 with the subway shot: Medicom MAFEX Knightfall Azrael Batman, staged inside an Extreme Sets subway train pop-up diorama. The caption reads like a trailer: "A different kind of vengeance." The music credit underneath is the tell — "Lost His Way in the Darc" by Darc Reign / @epictoysound. He didn't reach for someone else's audio. He scored his own scene.

The post did what family posts do — it traveled. Ronnie picked it up the same night and greenlit a Short built around the shot, cut to the track, with Darc Reign credited up top. That cut is in the works now — the finished version comes back to Ronnie for a yes before it posts anywhere.

Post two: "Move in the shadows and hit like a train"

Then this morning, October 7, the second strike: "Move in the shadows and hit like a train." Medicom DarkestKnight Batman Azrael, another Extreme Sets diorama, and the featured track "Like a Shadow" by Darc Reign, @epictoysound — a cut from The Darkest Reign, Vol. I.

Read the two captions back to back and you hear the arc: a figure lost in the dark, then a figure moving through it. That's not two random posts. That's a character study with a soundtrack.

The tracks

"Like a Shadow" — Darc Reign's own ETS cut, out on The Darkest Reign, Vol. I (Zillion Records / Epic Toy Sound). Moody, low-slung, built for exactly the kind of frame he shoots: shadows, rain-slick surfaces, a vigilante who doesn't ask permission.

"Lost His Way in the Darc" — this one is still in motion. The master audio is pending from Darc Reign himself, and the subway-shot Short is being cut around it. No release date to announce yet; we're saying it plainly instead of guessing. When the audio lands, the arc completes: post → Short → release. Watch this space.

Photographer spotlight: Darc Reign

If you're new to the family, here's the file on @darc_reign: toy photographer, COVID-era mystery-box recipient, and the man Ronnie calls his preferred cover artist. His frames have fronted ETS releases across the catalog — Batman Who Laughs, Punisher and Daredevil, Robin, Kano, Gator, the shark shot — and his features run deep in the music too: "River of Abundance" and "Cold Star Solace" on Cosmic Panda's Mesmerized, "Dripsicle Season" on Toys and Beats Vol. 1, and "Blade in the Mist."

His lane is the dark corner of the shelf — third-party, Mezco, wrestling, the figures other people are afraid to light. He lights them like cinema. And now he's scoring them like cinema too.

The takeaway for the community

The lesson in the double drop isn't "post twice." It's build the world, then live in it. Darc Reign didn't just photograph Azrael — he gave Azrael a sound, two tracks deep, and let the second post answer the first. If you shoot a character you love, ask what it sounds like. Then make that sound yours.

True collaboration isn't just celebrating the finished master — it's honoring the creative arc of a partner who builds both the visual and sonic worlds in real time.

Every track here is produced by @myboyronnied of @zillioninstrumentals — original music for the toy photography community, made to be used.
